242 Oscar Hill

The following is a pictorial report on the progress made at the Crystal Coast Habitat building project at 242 Oscar Hill Drive Newport, NC. We will update the report with each major building phase with comments and pictures. The construction volunteers typically work at the site every Tuesday and Thursday. Additional volunteers on this project will be active duty Marines as well as our regular volunteers (some are retired Marines). Work days are also scheduled on Saturdays for different volunteer groups.

Initial building phase has involved the Foundation and Floor system for the 1st floor.

The Floor system has been completed with the help of Cherry Point Marine/Navy  volunteers and our regular volunteers.

The same Cheery Point volunteers and regular volunteers also started adding the outside walls.

Outside frame walls completed by our regular volunteers.

Outside walls and trusses are almost completed by our regular volunteers and Marines volunteers working on a Saturday, progress slowed some by heat and rain.

All the trusses and roof ladderextensions have been added  and the wall tar papering is just about complete. Next step is to add the roof OSB sheathing.

Thanks to the regular Tuesday/Thursday volunteers, we now have the roof OSB on and the roof papering started.

Roofing paper has been added to the roof and the windows are installed.

Thanks to the help of over 30 Marines from Company B 2nd Combat Engineers working with our regular volunteers, the roof shingling has been completed, the pump house slab and framing completed, and the framing of the storage shed completed.

All the vinly siding has been completed by our regular volunteers. Facia metal is being added. The decorative shutters have been added and the front deck is almost completed accept for the steps.

The front and back decks are completed. Driveway slab has been laid. The drywall is completed and the inside painting is in process along with interior door installation. the outside shed roof is complete and about 70 % of the vinly.

All of the painting was completed. Tile in both bathrooms was completed and laminate flooring/baseboards in all other rooms was completed. All plumbing and electrical are complete and operational. All that remains inside the house is the addition of mirrors in the bathrooms, shelving added to all closets, and touchup painting. Outside the shed is complete except for some metal facia work, the pumphouse needs the vinyl to be completed, and seeding/shrubs to be added to the lawn.
